On July 11, 2024, the entire leadership of the National Muslim Council of Liberia held a crucial meeting with the leadership of the Margibi County Muslim Council in Harbel, Smell No Taste, Margibi County. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the acquisition of land for the construction of a proposed Islamic Cultural Center—an ambitious project valued at over 10 million United States Dollars.
During the discussions, the Margibi County Muslim Council leadership welcomed the initiative and agreed to allocate the required land for the development of the center. Both parties acknowledged that the Muslim community in Margibi would greatly benefit from the center, which is envisioned to promote religious education, unity, and cultural growth.
The National Muslim Council delegation left the meeting highly encouraged and delighted by the outcome and the spirit of cooperation demonstrated.
However, a few days after the meeting, the Council received an unexpected call informing them that the decision had been reversed. The reason given was a lack of confidence that the National Muslim Council would fulfill its promises related to the project. This sudden shift was disheartening, especially after what had initially appeared to be a successful and unified agreement.
Despite this setback, the National Muslim Council of Liberia remains committed to its vision of establishing Islamic Cultural Centers across the country and continues to seek dialogue and cooperation with stakeholders to ensure that such initiatives are realized for the benefit of the Muslim community nationwide.
