NMCL Unveils 2026–2027 Strategic Plan at Annual General Assembly
Full Article:
The National Muslim Council of Liberia (NMCL) has officially presented its One-Year Strategic Plan for 2026-2027 during its Annual General Assembly, marking a significant step toward institutional reform and sustainable development.
Under the theme "Consolidating Gains and Strengthening Institutional Efficiency," the plan outlines a bold and action-oriented roadmap designed to address immediate challenges while laying a solid foundation for long-term growth.
The strategic plan serves as a transitional framework aligned with the broader 2026-2030 vision of the Council. It focuses on strengthening governance structures, improving financial sustainability, and enhancing service delivery to Muslim communities across Liberia.
A key highlight of the plan is institutional strengthening, which includes the activation of standing committees, recruitment of administrative staff, and the establishment of a functional Secretariat. These efforts aim to improve coordination, decision-making, and operational efficiency within the Council.
In the area of financial sustainability, the Council is prioritizing the establishment of a Zakat Committee, enforcement of compliance among Hajj agencies, and the introduction of a structured membership dues system. These initiatives are expected to increase revenue generation and reduce dependency on irregular funding sources.
Education remains a central pillar of the strategy, with significant emphasis placed on the launch of the King Sao Boso Kamara Islamic University. Planned for official opening in September 2026, the university is expected to strengthen Islamic education and expand learning opportunities for students across the country.
The plan also prioritizes social welfare programs, including support for widows, orphans, and vulnerable groups, alongside the development of a national beneficiary database to improve outreach and impact.
Additionally, the Council is advancing initiatives in peacebuilding, women and youth empowerment, and digital transformation. These include alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, leadership development programs, and the digitization of key records such as Islamic marriage certificates.
With an estimated budget exceeding $100,000, the plan outlines clear performance indicators, including increased membership registration, successful partnerships, and expanded community support programs.
Speaking at the Assembly, Council leadership emphasized that the success of the strategic plan will depend on strong leadership commitment, stakeholder collaboration, and effective resource mobilization.
As NMCL moves forward, this strategic plan is expected to not only stabilize the institution but also restore public confidence and position the Council for a more impactful and sustainable future.
