Monrovia, Liberia – March 11, 2024 – The National Muslim Council of Liberia participated in a three-day regional consultation with traditional and faith leaders focused on ending violence against women and girls (EVAWG). The engagement began on March 11, 2024, and brought together religious and traditional leaders from across West Africa.
Hosted in Monrovia, the consultation emphasized the critical role of faith-based institutions and traditional structures in addressing and preventing gender-based violence. It provided a platform for open dialogue, experience-sharing, and strategy development aimed at fostering safer and more equitable communities.
The program featured expert facilitators and lecturers, with a strong representation from across the West African subregion—particularly Nigeria, which dominated the delegation of speakers.
The National Muslim Council of Liberia’s inclusion underscored the Council’s commitment to promoting peace, human dignity, and justice through the lens of Islamic values and national solidarity. Their active participation highlighted the importance of interfaith collaboration in addressing one of the most pressing social issues in the region.
