The National Muslim Council of Liberia, in close coordination with the Government of Liberia and with anticipated support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is undertaking efforts to identify and acquire suitable land for the construction of a modern Islamic Cultural Center in Liberia.
This Cultural Center is intended to serve as a national hub for Islamic education, School, hospital, recreation Center, Park, Commercial Center, interfaith dialogue, youth and women empowerment, and the promotion of cultural understanding, unity, and development among Liberia’s Muslim population and the broader society.
Despite the enthusiasm and commitment surrounding this project, the process of acquiring land—particularly in Monrovia—has proven extremely challenging. Several locations have been visited and assessed, but the cost of land in the capital city remains prohibitively high, with current market prices ranging between US$85,000.00 to US$90,000.00 per lot.
One of the key parcels of land visited is adjacent to the residence of former President Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, extending towards the CDC Headquarters. While the location is strategic and desirable, the financial implications remain a serious obstacle.
To facilitate this critical national project, a Land Search Committee has been established, consisting of the following individuals:
- Dr. Phanta Sackor – Chairlady
- Imam Salleh A. Kanneh – Member
- Alhaji A. F. Kuku Reeves – Member
- Mr. Momolu S. Vannie – Member
The Council remains steadfast in its commitment to pursuing this initiative and is actively exploring alternatives that balance location, accessibility, affordability, and future growth potential.
We extend a special call to national stakeholders, landowners, community leaders, and philanthropic partners to support this endeavor—whether through land donations, financial contributions, or facilitating negotiations for affordable acquisition.
This Cultural Center will not only serve Liberia’s Muslim population but will stand as a symbol of peace, education, and coexistence, benefiting the entire nation.
