Liberian Pilgrims Successfully Complete the 2026 Hajj
The Republic of Liberia made history during the 2026 Hajj season by sending a total of 1,200 pilgrims to the Holy Land of Makkah, marking the first time the country has dispatched a four-digit contingent for the sacred pilgrimage.
Among the pilgrims were 130 Liberians from the diaspora, representing the largest diaspora participation in Liberia's Hajj history since the founding of the Republic. This remarkable achievement reflected the growing unity and commitment of Liberian Muslims, both at home and abroad, to fulfilling one of the five pillars of Islam.
The Liberian pilgrims first arrived safely in Madinah, where they visited the Prophet's Mosque before proceeding to Makkah to perform the Hajj rites. The Liberian Hajj mission was led by Alhaji Abraham Fumbah Sherif, Chairman of the National Muslim Council of Liberia, who headed the official delegation throughout the pilgrimage.
To transport the pilgrims, Liberia operated three chartered flights, ensuring the safe movement of all pilgrims to and from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The National Muslim Council of Liberia extends its profound appreciation to the Government of Liberia, particularly His Excellency Ambassador Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia, for the unwavering support provided to the Liberian Hajj mission. The Council also expresses sincere gratitude to the Hajj Agencies of Liberia, the Executive Committee of the National Muslim Council of Liberia, and all individuals and institutions whose dedication and cooperation contributed to the successful organization of the 2026 Hajj.
Following the successful completion of the pilgrimage, the Liberian pilgrims returned home safely in three groups on July 8, 9, and 10, 2026, bringing to a close a historic and successful Hajj season for the Republic of Liberia.
May Allah (SWT) accept the Hajj of all the pilgrims, reward everyone who contributed to its success, and continue to bless the Republic of Liberia with peace, unity, and prosperity. Ameen.
