History

The National Muslim Council of Liberia, established in1974 as an umbrella organization to steer the affairs of Muslims of Liberia, seeks their welfare, protects and defend their rights and promotes their interests within the spirit of Islamic teachings and mutual collaboration for peace and security of the Liberian State;

Recognizing the inestimable sacrifices made by our forefathers, viz: the Muslim Congress of Liberia, Muslim League of Salafiya, the Liberia Muslim Union and the Muslim Community (Council of Muslim Community) leading to the founding of the National Muslim Council of Liberia in 1974;

Applauding the achievements of the National Muslim Council of Liberia in the areas of education, peacebuilding, social and cultural advancement of the Ummah (Muslim Community) spanning over four (4) decades, and yet acknowledging the imperatives to accelerate the overall transformation of the lots of the Ummah of Liberia through participation and inclusiveness for the realization of our collective aspirations;

Mindful of our mandate as National Muslim Council of Liberia to undertake meaningful reforms aimed at rebuilding the capacity of the institution relative to its structure, membership and responsibility, governance and sustainability;

NOW THEREFORE, We, the National Muslim Council of Liberia, blessed by The Almighty Allah with enormous bounties derived from our diverse cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds and experiences;

Aspiring to fulfill our spiritual and material wellbeing in keeping with the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the practices of the Prophet Muhammad May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him (SAW);

Aware that Muslims in Liberia have an inherent right to worship The Almighty Allah in consonance with the rights guaranteed under Article 14 of the 1986 Constitution of the Republic of Liberia, as further enshrined and protected in the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights;

Realizing the need to coordinate our activities and work together as Ummah in order to fulfill the duty of Ibaadah (worship);
