The National Muslim Council of Liberia (NMCL) marked two significant milestones in its institutional journey in June 2023, reflecting its continued commitment to unity, development, and effective service delivery within the Muslim community of Liberia.

National Executive Council Meeting – June 12, 2023

On June 12, 2023, the NMCL convened its National Executive Council Meeting at the council’s headquarters. The meeting brought together national executives, county representatives, and key stakeholders to deliberate on issues central to the council’s mission.

Key agenda items included:

  • Strategies to strengthen institutional development
  • Improving coordination among regional and national bodies
  • Enhancing service delivery to meet the needs of Muslims across Liberia

Discussions also touched on community outreach, youth empowerment, and engagement with international Islamic partners. The meeting emphasized the importance of unity, transparency, and collaboration in fulfilling the Council’s vision and goals.

Leadership Turnover Ceremony – June 14, 2023

Just two days later, on June 14, 2023, a formal Leadership Turnover Ceremony was held at the Liberia Council of Churches headquarters, located on 15th Street in Monrovia. The event marked a significant and peaceful transition of leadership within the Inter-Religious Council of Liberia (IRCL).

In a symbolic and respectful ceremony, former NMCL Chairman Abdullah G. Mansaray, representing the Muslim community within the IRCL, officially handed over leadership responsibilities to the newly elected Chairman Alhaji Abraham Fumbah Sherif. The occasion was graced by leaders of various faith groups, highlighting the spirit of interreligious collaboration and national unity.

This smooth transition reaffirmed NMCL’s commitment to democratic governance and structured leadership. It also reflected the council’s broader role in promoting peace, dialogue, and faith-based service across Liberia.

Together, these events underline the NMCL’s resolve to build a stronger organizational foundation, cultivate responsible leadership, and enhance its ability to serve the Liberian Muslim community with dedication and purpose.
